News and Updates

  1. Community Grant Funds Update: The United Way of Stanislaus County will be releasing the 2015 Community Grant Funds Request for Proposal (RFP) on March 2, 2015. The Request for Proposal is the first step in the competitive process that allows the United Way to fund programs that positively impact our community in the areas of Health, Education, and Financial Independence. The RFP will be emailed directly to our Partner Agencies and will be posted on the United Way of Stanislaus County website. All United Way of Stanislaus County Partner Agencies are eligible to apply and we encourage all of them to submit their proposals by March 31, 2015.
  2. Health Initiative Update: The United Way of Stanislaus is very excited about our upcoming Health Initiative and would like to update all our partners on its development. This year we decided to impact our community by coordinating a collaborative effort to increase access to and consumption of healthy food. We have chosen a two pronged approach to accomplishing this goal. Our initiative will provide bags of healthy foods to participants and teach caretakers how to cook healthy meals at home.

Twice a month, elementary school students in after school programs will receive substantial food bags with foods that are held to high nutritional standards. These food bags are intended to increase food security and increase the amount of nutritious food participants families consume.

The second strategy we will implement is to teach parents and kids the value of cooking nutritious, tasty, meals at home. The United Way will coordinate cooking classes that show caretakers how to create healthy dishes, utilize new ingredients, and most importantly, get their children to eat healthy foods. At the end of each class the families will be given bags of the food ingredients they cooked with so they can practice at home.

We are currently working with Ceres Unified School District and Modesto City Schools to identify pilot sites for this program. Additional updates will be provided to you as the initiative develops. We look forward to the positive impact this initiative will have on our community and we are thankful for the many individuals and organizations who have given us great ideas and support.
